Britain's Got Talent hit with hundreds of Ofcom complaints after 'inappropriate' fire stunt

The stuntman appeared onBGTon Sunday (16 April), when he left the judges absolutely horrified - and impressed enough to send him through to the next round - by lighting himself on fire and completing a Rubiks cube.
HostsAnt and Decwarned viewers absolutely not to try the stunt at home, 'ever', but that wasn't enough to stop people at home criticising the decision to show Vu's performance.
Many baffled fans took toTwitterto slam the act as being inappropriate, with one writing: "Don’t get me wrong, people do crazy stuff and it’s their choice and that’s fine by me but maybe that last act should have been well after the 9pm watershed?? Not sure that kind of playing with fire thing is suitable for young kids who probably stay up to watch BGT.”
Another disgruntled viewer commented: “BGT totally ill-considered showing a guy setting himself on fire whilst solving a Rubik’s Cube.
"No thought to the fact that impressionable children watch the show.”
And the complaints definitely weren't limited to Twitter feeds, as TV watchdog Ofcom has reported that it received 334 complaints after Vu made his appearance on the show.
Following the stuntman's appearance, a spokesperson forBGTinsisted the show 'showcases a mix of variety acts to engage audiences'.
"In this case, it was made very clear on screen that this act should not be tried at home and the programme was subject to strict compliance rules," they added.
While Vu's stunts obviously aren't for everybody, the performer does at least have some good experience behind him to help him put on a good show.
Some viewers might have recognised the star from his roles on the big screen, where he'd previously appeared in titles like Marvel'sShang Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsandReady Player One.
Vu has also earned credits in TV shows likeDaredevilandWestworld.
Considering Vu earned more than 300 complaints simply with his opening act, it will be interesting to see what challenge he sets himself when he returns to the show in the next round.
