John Travolta breaks down in tears while honouring Olivia Newton John at Oscars

John Travolta gave an emotional tribute to his lateGreaseco-star Olivia Newton-John at the Oscars, tearing up as he quoted one of the songs from the popular musical.

He said: "They've touched our hearts, they've made us smile, and became dear friends, who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to."

Naturally, there wasn't a dry eye in the house, with one viewer tweeting: "Not John Travolta quoting hopelessly devoted to you by Olivia newton john in his introduction to the #Oscars tribute performance."

Someone else said: "Aaaaawwww John Travolta is so touched by Olivia's passing."

A third wrote: "WHO THE HELL DECIDED JOHN TRAVOLTA TO PRESENT THE IN MEMORIAM FOR OLIVIA?"

Easterling said: "Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.

"We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.

"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.

"Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.

"Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall."

Travolta penned his own emotional tribute on Instagram, where he wrote: "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better.

"Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again."

He added: "Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John."

Along with Newton-John, names appeared on the screen during the segment including Irene Papas, Robbie Coltrane, Kirstie Alley, Dame Angela Lansbury, Irene Cara, Ray Liotta, Nichelle Nichols, Burt Bacharach, Vangelis, James Caan and Raquel Welch.
