The 1992 erotic thriller follows the story of crime novelist Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), who is linked to the brutal death of a rock star.
Homicide detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) investigates Catherine, who in turn, seduces him into an intense relationship.
As a result, the murder case becomes increasingly complicated.
Even if you've not seen the film, you'll probably be aware of thefamous leg-crossing scenethat left viewers with their jaws in their popcorn after murder investigators received an eyeful of Stone's private parts.
On numerous occasions since it's release, Stone has revealed that she had no idea that her genitals were going to be shown in the movie - and only found out because of a screening.
“That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything - I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on,’” she wrote In her 2021memoirThe Beauty of Living Twice.
Stone reportedly went to the projection booth and slapped the movie’s director, Paul Verhoeven, 'across the face'.
Despite threatening an injunction, the actor regrettably never went through with it.
In 2004, her world came crashing down when a judge used her nudity in the film against her when she lost custody of her son Roan, of whom she had with ex-husband Phil Bronstein.
Bronstein got custody of Roan, in part, due to the film, Stone claims.
“I lost custody of my child,” she recentlytoldtheTable for Two With Bruce Bozzipodcast.
“When the judge asked my child - my tiny little boy, 'Do you know your mother makes sex movies?' Like, this kind of abuse by the system - that I was considered what kind of parent I was, because I made that movie."
"People are walking around with no clothes on at all on regular TV now and you saw maybe like a 16th of a second of possible nudity of me - and I lost custody of my child,” Stone added.
She said the decision broke her heart and that she 'ended up in the Mayo Clinic with extra heartbeats in the upper and lower chambers of my heart'.
As time has passed, Roan is now 22, and Stone has been able to build a strong relationship with him by also adopting his brothers, Laird, 17, and Quinn, 16.
All three of her sons reportedly now live with her in West Hollywood.
