In the new Mountain Dewadvert, the actor takes on the role of Jack Torrance, who famously loses his mind and violently turns on his family.
But unlike Jack Nicholson's wild portrayal of the axe-wielding writer-turned-caretaker, 63-year-old Cranston takes a much more light-hearted approach to the character.
The ad opens with the formerMalcolm In The Middlestar creeping up the stairs with a bottle of Mountain Dew in his hand, searching for his terrified wife.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are...." he sneers.
He then gets to the bathroom door, pulls out his axe and proceeds to smash his way through.
Then, poking his face through the shattered wooden panel, he shouts: "Here's Mountain Dew Zero!"
And all of a sudden, as if nothing had happened, the woman who had been screaming and cowering in the corner of the room, is totally fine.
Taking the bottle from Cranston's hand, she says: "I am thirsty."
A wave of the green pop then sweeps through the hotel lobby before we see a final shot of Cranston wearing a blue dress and a wig, pretending to be the film's demonic twins. Urgh.
The veteran actor has come a long way in the six years since we said goodbye to his character Walter White in hit seriesBreaking Bad.
But while fans around the world mourned the end of the show, news broke this week that Cranston's onscreen sonwants to return to carry on Walt's legacy.
Actor RJ Mitte, who played Walter Jr., has revealed that he has already spoken toBreaking Badcreator Vince Gilligan about the possibility of a new spin-off, with him taking the lead.
Speaking toThe Sun, the 27-year-old - who, like his character, has cerebal palsy - said he thinks the issues Walter Jr had to go through in the show would make for a gripping series.
He said: "He is his father's son in a way of his actions and his moralities of what he's going to do would be right for his family.
"I think for us it would be a very hard life after what Heisenberg did to his family and I think that stigma would carry.
"But I would like to see Walt Jr. being a gangster."
