Amy Schumer Updates Fans After Undergoing Surgery For Endometriosis

The 40-year-old has previously spoken about living with the painful condition, which causes tissue similar to the lining of the womb to grow in other places.

It can cause painful heavy periods, fatigue and fertility issues.

There's no cure for endometriosis, but there are treatments which can make it more bearable.

In a video from her hospital, the comedian said she's doing well after having her uterus removed.

She said: "So, it's the morning after my surgery for endometriosis and my uterus is out.

"The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis and he removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attacked it.

"There was a lot, a lot, of blood in my uterus and I'm sore and I have some, like, gas pains but, other than that, I already feel that my energy, even though I'm..."

The video then abruptly cut out.

Posting the clip, Amy wrote: "If you have really painful periods you may have endometriosis."

The star has been flooded with support after sharing the honest video.

US singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton commented: "I'm so sorry Amy! Looks like life is about to get way less painful. But not less gassy."

This is not the first time she's spoken candidly about her endometriosis.

She went on to explain the relatively straight-forward cesarean section took a lot longer than it should have.

She said: "Even through the birthing centre has an operating room and doctors at the ready... my instincts were just like, 'no'.

"I was throwing up through the whole first hour of my C-section. It's supposed to take about an hour and a half or something but mine took over three hours because of my endometriosis."
