Driver Caught Speeding At 100mph To See Girlfriend Told Police Love Made Him Do It

A driver caughtspeedingat more than 100mph down the motorway gave officers an incredibly romantic excuse for his actions, telling them ‘love’ made him do it... only to be reported straight tocourt.
Thames Valley Police said the majority of drivers on Easter Sunday (17 April) were ‘egg-cellent’, but that one motorist had been caught racing along the M40 to ‘see his girlfriend’.
After being clocked speeding at 102mph, the enamoured offender was stopped by police, simply telling them that it was love that made him do it.
A post on the force’s Roads Policing unit’s Facebook page said: "The motorist stopped doing 102mph was driving to see his girlfriend and said love made him do it.
"Rock legend Meatloaf: 'I would do anything thing for love, but I just won’t do that!' (Speeding?). Reported straight to Court."
Commenting on the post, one person joked: "You Can't Hurry Love by Phil Collins comes to mind, obviously won't be going anywhere speedy...."
The unmarked enforcement along the M40 also stopped a number of other drivers for speeding at 91mph, 90mph and 89mph, while two people were caught out for careless driving after ‘undertaking at speed’, and one person for not being ‘in proper control of their vehicle’.
The Facebook post said: “Unmarked enforcement on the #M40 this morning. The majority of Egg-cellent motorists were driving safely, thank you.
“A small number of drivers were stopped for offences including:
- Speeding: 102mph, 91, 90 and 89.
- 2 x Careless Driving (undertaking at speed).
- 1 x Not in proper control of their vehicle.”
It added: “Remember #ArriveAlive and stick to the limits. #ItsNotWorthTheRisk.”
Last year, police in Greater Manchesterslammed another motoristfor their 'poor attitude' to road safety, having stopped her for speeding at 47mph in a 30mph zone.
The driver - who already had three points on her licence for speeding - told officers when they pulled her over: "Well I'm allowed 12 points."
The woman was citing the penalty points system, whereby an accumulation of 12 points within three years can result in a driving ban. However, regardless of how many points you have on your license, driving at almost 50mph in a 30mph zone is obviously dangerous.
Greater Manchester Police Bury North said in a Facebook post: "#TRANSPORTUNIT officers issued 5 Traffic offence reports whilst conducting speed enforcement on Bury Road, Bury.
"The driver of this Range Rover was doing 47mph in a 30mph zone.
"Already having 3 points on her licence for speeding, her reply to officers was "well I'm allowed 12 points". Poor attitude towards road safety."
