Influencer Lists Mouldy Phone Cover On eBay And Gets £120,000 In Bids

An influencer inGermanywasoffered £120,000 ($160,000) for amouldymobile phone case after jokingly listing the item oneBayas 'modern art'.

Bianca Classen, 27, planned to donate money from the sale to a homeless charity, but ended up cancelling the auction afterrealisingshe would have to pay 10 percent taxfirst.

Classen is an online influencer who goes by the pseudonym of 'Bibi' onYouTube, where she has almost six million subscribers.

She shared images of the mobile phone case with fans, saying the cover got wet while she was taking underwater photos, before leaving it in a cupboard and forgetting about it.

A 'jungle' ofmouldended up growing on the case, which Classen reckoned looked like modern art.

She was encouraged to put the phone accessory on eBay, with proceeds set to be donated to help the homeless in German cities.

However, she was shocked to find the bids quickly racked up to€133,000 (£119,000), meaning she would have to pay €13,000 (£11,600) in tax before she could give the money to charity.

Despite the generous offer, she decided to not take up the buyer's bid.

She would have had to pay the tax first, and felt concerned the buyer might not then pay up.

The influencer said the bidding went crazy for the first eight hours of the auction, before things suddenly ground to a halt after reaching more than 200 offers.

It is not known whether or not the highest bigger genuinely thought themouldyphone case would have been a worthwhile investment, or if they had just been a huge fan of the star- whose YouTube channelBibisBeautyPalacehas been operating since 2012.

Classen and her husband Julian, 27, said they didn't want the homeless charity to miss out the money that it was going to receive, vowing to make a donation of their own.

The duo did not confirm how much they would be donating to the charity.
