Mr Blobby costume sells for £62,000 on eBay

An anonymous buyer has given Mr Blobby a new lease of life by shelling out over £60,000 for the character's iconic costume.

He first made an appearance in the “Gotcha” segment of the hit BBC showNoel’s House Party, where celebrities would had to endure pranks.

Last week a seller started an online auction on eBay to find a new home for the Mr Blobby costume in their possession.

The costume, which was originally listed last week by the seller with a low starting price of just £39, was made in the 1990s.

This means this incredible piece of TV memorability is more than 25 years old.

It has now sold for an incredible £62, 101.

The seller said they got the costume because of quite a sad and shocking reason - nobody wanted to take it home with them.

The seller was left to take care of the costume and it lived in their office and then their home for years.

"Neither the broadcaster or the BBC's production team wanted it - so it sat in my office until a move meant it came home with me some years ago,” the seller wrote.

The seller needed to bid adieu to the costume once and for all because they were moving house.

"Overall it's not too bad for its age - but there is visible creasing and dust to the covering and some areas require a drop of glue to make good," the honest seller shared.

The costume isn’t without its own scars of sorts. The seller said the costume has a crack in one of Mr Blobby’s plastic eyes, while its arms and its famous bow tie both need reattaching.

That being said, who doesn’t love a work in progress?

"Overall it's not too bad for its age - but there is visible creasing and dust to the covering and some areas require a drop of glue to make good,” the seller shared.

Now this may come as a huge disappointment or a massive relief depending on the side of the fence you’re on - but don’t expect to see Mr Blobby running around your local high street any time soon.

Why, you ask? The seller specifically warned in the listing that the suit is ‘less suitable to be worn’.

The buyer - whose identity is unknown - will have to sign an agreement that they will not hire out or use the costume for public exhibition in accordance with copyright law.
