Paul O'Grady has spoken of the ordeal he suffered after being rushed to hospital during filming his showFor the Love of Dogs.
He fell ill while filming for the show in Delhi and was taken to hospital after he began to feel delirious and had a high temperature and a fever. He has admitted that it was partially his fault because he was lying in the gutter helping to clean the maggot-filled wounds of two stray dogs.
There are thought to be about 400,000 dogs living stray in the Indian city.
He toldthe Express: "You don't lie in the gutter in Delhi with street dogs. There were two little pups that had been bitten by a rat.
"Inside the wound were maggots and I was flicking them out while feeding the dogs by hand.
"Of course, the dogs were licking me and I forgot and I was touching my face. That night I started vomiting."

He continued: "A doctor came and he said I had to go into hospital because I was dehydrated."
They weren't wrong either - doctors told him that his dehydration was so severe that he was in danger of his kidneys failing.
To avoid suffering from renal failure, he was connected to a saline drip and given a course of antibiotics.
O'Grady's love of dogs is well documented and he has suffered a significant loss this week as his beloved dog Olga had to be put to sleep after becoming ill.

He toldthe Mirror: "I held her and off she went, I buried her myself in the orchard.
"She was widely loved. She had her own fan club."
"I'm really sad but there was no choice but for Olga to be put to sleep.
"She was ready to go. At least I will have a good night's sleep now. I have been up with her for two nights on the sofa. She's been up in the night vomming and things.
"It's the hardest thing to do but it's the only thing to do.
"I knew it wasn't Olga any more, she was a state. I shed my tears earlier on in the week. It's heartbreaking. but she had a great life. She loved television studios."
